Merrick Festival

The Festival

Merrick Festival was begun by Coral Gables native, Carole Fewell in 1989. In 1992, the first year the Festival was presented, it was the community’s only performing and visual arts showcase, featuring cultural groups from all over South Florida. It grew to become one of the area’s most important events and remained a free festival of the performing arts, presenting live theater, national and international performers while retaining the reputation for showcasing young ambitious talent to the South Florida community. Held every April, all of the events presented at Merrick Festival were free to the public. The annual Merrick Festival was last held in April, 2005.

In 1993 The Merrick Festival added a second a event to further enhance the organization’s Misson. The annual Caroling Competition (founded by the Director in 1987) was now being presented every December for the City of Coral Gables. Another fine Merrick Festival event.

Today our sponsor list consists of companies who have found our audience demographics a perfect match to their marketing objectives. They participate in part for that reason but even more so because they believe that Coral Gables does have a special ambiance, and support of theperforming arts is integral to the community’s appeal.

It is the goal of Merrick Festival organizers to showcase our City to all of South Florida.
We continue to pursue quality entertainment as a public endeavor and present it free. Merrick Festival provides a cooperative showcase for the performing arts to entertain and educate. With each successive year, Merrick Festival offers everyone the opportunity to experience the beauty of the performing arts, in the grand tradition of Coral Gables.

The 2015 Caroling Competition will be held beginning December 2 through December 6.
